Christian...?

I am a Christian and the third commandment says,

Thou salt not take the lords name in vain,

Some say that oh my God is bad but,

Matthew 27:46 (King James Version)

46And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?|||Talking to God is not breaking the third commandment. When people say God in a frustrated context to express anger,etc...

That is bad

http://www.needGod.com|||true. that is talking to God, not using His name in vain. it is more like a prayer that was asking a question. like when someone prays and says," God, why is this happening?"

do you understand?

|||Since he was quoting scripture (Psalm 22) and was not swearing, no.

Also, just in case you think I'm wrong and believe He was addressing the Father, He was addressing the Father. Again, not swearing. So, either way it's not "taking the Lord's name in vain."|||thats because he is calling out to GOD. but if you use it in any other way its wrong. even using HOLY in any other way but to bring glory to God its wrong.|||I believe taking the Lord's name in vain means not claiming to follow Him and still live like the devil. If you are going to wear His name you should walk the walk not just talk the talk.

Sending you a smile to help pick up your day.|||Vain = without due respect or piety; profanely.|||He was talking to God. Basically, taking His name in vain means to say it without any real meaning. Like, when you're not even referring to or talking to God.|||Taking God's name in vain means to use it out of frustration and to cuss someone out. What you quoted doesn't count.|||Why base your life on a book that seems to contradict itself in numerous places?

Surely you will hear appeasement about Jesus not meaning it or meaning it in a different way, but let's face it, the Bible is not a consistent book. Some of the morals, which support slavery and violence, are not the best insights.|||it is fine to say it if you are calling out to God|||I say Oh my god, Jesus, Christ, etc. all the time, and I haven't been smited yet . . . oh, look out, here it SPLAT
