How come the Christian god didn鈥檛 invent the Christian hell concept until the New Testament?

If any Christians want to argue that the Christian hell concept existed in the Old Testament, don鈥檛 argue with me; argue instead with the Jews whose people wrote the Old Testament. They know their 鈥榟oly book鈥?doesn鈥檛 contain the Christian hell concept but you believe it does, even though it is their book that they have been reading and interpreting it for thousands of years in their own language.|||The concept of hell you speak of-if you mean a fiery eternal place of torment-isn't Christian.

The book of Revelation chapter 20:13 (King James Version) says this"And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them; and they were judged every man according to their works."

How can a person be dead in hell yet be burned alive?

Also, if the soul is immortal-as Christendom teaches not the bible, the Bible says the soul is mortal Ezekiel 18:4-how does a soul that leaves the body at death burn?

Hell is mankind's common grave.

The ancient Jews knew people died, and were just that dead ,as the Wise King Solomon stated at Ecclesiastes 9:5, and 10. "For the living are conscious that they will die, but as for the dead they are conscious of nothing at all...............

and 10 "All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol the place to which you are going."|||first off, most people when they envision hell they see a very different hell than what is in the bible. they see a hell that has been created by 2000 years of speculation by scholars, artists, poets and the like--the foremost being Dante with "Inferno". For Jews in the Old Testament, God did not really need a hell simply because he could punish them on earth by removing his grace from there lives (this would cause political upheaval, like Assyria laying siege to jerusalem). The afterlife for Jews is something called "sheol" with pretty much means "to sleep". A concept of hell was created in the New Testament by Jesus as a moral compass for those not following his teachings.|||The hell concept that most religions teach is totally man made. The churches, especially the Catholic church) invented it to keep their members in line. The idea of a literal burning hellfire in not found in the Bible. The Lake of Fire is symbolic meaning total destruction To believe that God would torture anyone forever would make him an evil fiend.|||Hell is referred to as Sheol in the old testament. Here are some of the references.

You argument about the old testament only belonging to Jews doesn't fly. Many of the early christians were jewish, and they understood the old testament references as well.|||You are basically correct. Judaism does not incorporate the notion of Hell. There WAS however a trash dump...so to speak, at the outskirts of Jerusalem that had a name similar to hell. It was set on fire occasionally to burn the trash. This became the template for Hell and people burning there that was incorporated in the New Testament and used as a form of control by the Church over the populace ever since.|||maybe you should read the old testament books: Psalms and Proverbs

Psalm 55:15

Let death seize them;Let them go down alive into hell, For wickedness is in their dwellings and among them

Proverbs 15:24

The way of life winds upward for the wise, That he may turn away from hell below.

those are just a few verses. there are more....trying reading.|||they needed a scare tactic to A. get people to join the cult or else B. keep people in line (whatever that meant at the time) C. total control of the "sheep"|||Zoroastrian influence.|||new testament, new new new new|||Don't confuse the poor dears with facts.|||hell is mentioned in the old testament

people refuse to believe it is

israel today has rejected the word of god and does not believe what their ancestors believed when the scriptures were written

the grave is not hell

both righteous and ungodly both die and are put in the grave

god says he raises both in the old testament from the grave

Dan 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.|||Your answered your own question -- It's a new covenant. Blessings|||Well, god is stupid obviously.
