Christians: How come secular countries thrive while Christian countries are poor?

Secular, pro-gay countries like Canada, Sweden, Australia, and Denmark are prosperous and stable even though they have "turned their backs on God" according to you. However, extremely religious Christian countries like Jamaica, the Congo, and Nigeria are poor, violent, and dirty. Shouldn't it be the other way around?|||i agree with you on this one... that is why missionaries take advantage of the situation. poor people are easy to fool when that have nothing. They want to believe that they are "loved", and good things will happen if you believe.|||Wow, how far do have to stretch the truth to make your point? You must be unaware that 7 out of the top 10 richest nations of the world also happen to have the largest Christian populations.

Ignorance aside, has it occurred to you that people in dire straits tend to need the hope that religion provides while those who are comfortable tend to think they don't need any guidance? Regardless, prosperity has more to with access to resources and a resistance to corruption far more than any religious factor, so whatever you're driving at is just plain wrong.|||Those countries you mentioned aren't christian. They are a mixture of several religions including catholicism %26amp; witchcraft.

Before America became so secular we were the richest. For all her debt she's still among the richest. For years Canadian coins were treated like slugs %26amp; a lot of stores wouldn't take them because they were worth less. Just a few years ago I bought a large amount of exotic wood for my husband's scroll saw in Canada. The exchange rate was so great that I not only bought the wood but also had it shipped to Ky. for a total that was still $7. less than I could buy it in town and we're only talking less than $50. worth of wood.

People just don't get it. There is no such thing as a christian nation. It can be founded on religious principles and the legal code in line with a particular religion. But that doesn't mean the nation is christian. Using your so called secular, pro-gay nations as an example - is there a law? Can you go to prison? What determines those laws and their penalty? Is it a moral code? Ethical? Why does anyone follow it or think it's fair? If they think it's unfair isn't it just a matter of opinion? If it's just a matter of opinion then no one is guilty %26amp; all should go free.

A secular nation making rules is like the parent who tells his child not to do something because he said so - it just doesn't work. There has to be a foundation to build on or you have chaos. The other nations you mentioned that are secular have a lot of other problems that money can't help. They are stable because for the most part they don't get involved with taking care of the rest of the world's needs. That can be both bad %26amp; good.

As for wealth %26amp; poverty it's all in how you look at it. I've been hungry %26amp; felt wealthy, had more than enough %26amp; had my gut grind.|||Nowhere in the Bible are those that choose to follow Christ promised earthly riches.

In many verses, Jesus tells would be followers sell everything you have, give to the poor, and you will store up treasure in heaven, and follow me. In yet others, he tells would be followers to deny themselves, take up the cross and follow him.|||When the Missionaries arrived, the Africans had the Land and the Missionaries had the Bible. They taught us how to pray with our eyes closed. When we opened them, they had the land and we had the Bible. - Jomo Kenyatta, former President of Kenya.|||Advancement of knowledge is accomplished with the WAY we opt to go about discovering truth. The WAY we opt to discover truth about our material universe is the scientific method. Which is frequently in opposition to other methods including believing in "revealed truth" systems of belief.

With the advancement of knowledge comes the advancement of technology, etc. and thus our standard of living.

This is NOT to say that philosophical (or religious truth) has no place in our society. But to defer to "revealed truth" when it conflicts with both scientific truth or even worse when it hinders the METHOD of discovering scientific truth, then this inhibits our search for knowledge.

It is only the advancement of secular societies which has allowed us to remove ourselves from the irrational and illogical dogma's of "revealed truth' religions and to make real advancement inm our search for scientific truth.

With advanced knowledge comes advances in education and with more education the irrationalities and ignorances of many "dogmatic and moralistic" positions of revealed truth religions are recognized for what they are -- ignorances of past generations.

======================================…

As I read other responses I wonder just why so many people believe that poverty, suffering, and ignorance are things to be prised?

And SYALLYLOU. . . you have it backwards. Morality is independent of religious belief. Moral code FOLLOWS the heart and mores of society, NOT the other way around.

The goodness of people is independent of religion. Those notions of love your neighbor etc found in religions followes from the goodness of men at their best. NOT the other way round.

It is the evolution of our understanding of moral code which influences people to "be good and avoid evil." And as our understanding of humanity and the human condition increases, changes in our understanding of morality evolves and improves. (Just one particular example for centuries man believed that the institution of slavery was MORAL. Thus slavery was never condemned by all major religions until the past couple centuries. This includes those religions of the Judeo-Christian heritage.)

Our better understanding of morality in turn influences changes in our religious belief. What WE today understand in the embodiment of the Ten Commandments is VERY different today then when these codes were written thousands of years ago.

SYALLYLOU. . .,YOU have it all backwards.|||Those that are rich are poor.

Those that are poor are rich.

For what have you received if the whole world is yours

But your eternity is damnation

Matthew 5:3

“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

Jesus is PRO LOVE

Matthew 19:24

I’ll say it again—it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!”|||Jam 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?|||Ok..you name a few countries out of hundreds, give no corroborating evidence that economic strength is related to religious views..

Your question is just ridiculous and totally without merit|||Thanks to the 'economic turnaround' most coutries you just listed as rich are actually struggling.

Usaully the more people have hardships the more they need to believe something (eg developing nations).|||Its simply because more people are thinking of what is actually best for their country then worrying about what some outdated text says, or what god says|||Fortunately the US has people like me to keep it chugging. ;)

Your analysis, though, falls a part a bit when you hit the mideast.|||it is because the countries are doing well people lose their need to seek God nut muslims countries are generally poorer .|||You really should read more.

edit:

Meh:

Lol, I always laugh at your comments. I think they are quite funny :D Especially that cat avatar :)|||the US with christianic anti-gay laws seems prosperous though
