Why do christians claim that jesus was a christian? Jesus was obviously a jew who practiced judaism?

He did not eat pork. He did not quote from any books called corinthians, revelation, or hebrews.

He read only the Torah and celebrated Judaic festivals and customs.

Why do christians claim that jesus was a christian? Jesus was obviously a jew who practiced judaism?|||You and christians seem ignorant about what a christian is!

CHRISTIAN – A follower or believer in Jesus.

It therefore matters not what his race or religion is since all who followed him became christians and as long as he believed in himself then he would be one too!|||lighting, according to your logic, those who followed Moses stop being Jews because they followed him.

But Jews are called Jews because they are from the tribe of Judah living in Judea not because they are followers of Judah.

|||Jesus was a Jew. His followers were Jewish. And the word "Christian" didn't exist in Jesus' lifetime. How does following the Jewish Messiah make you anything but Jewish?

|||He was a Jew, but his teachings presented many aspects that were not found in traditional Judaism, including his view that he was the son of god. His collected teachings became Christianity. But Christianity stems from Judaism, so there are many similarities. A theology professor of mine once put it like this:

Judaism

Christianity = Judaism +

Islam = Christianity +

Each religion took aspects of the one before it, and then modified/added some stuff to make it into a new belief system.|||Jesus was a terrorist

Bible is riddled with terrorist promoting crap.

20 Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent.

You worship a terrorist that uses hate speech to promote his worthless crap.

%26lt;%26lt; Revelation 19 %26gt;%26gt;

New International Version

13He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”a He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:

king of kings and lord of lords.

Osama Bin Laden would never be prouder and Stalin would piss his pants. Your little terrorist friend is not cute. You worship a terrorist.

New International Version

20But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. 21The rest of them were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.|||"Brand Loyalty."

It's like Henry Ford -- the inventor of the Ford Model T.

He couldn't tell people that before he drove Ford automobies, that he used to drive Studebakers, but he did.

And the Current Pope couldn't really admit that before he became a Christian, he was in the Hitler Youth Corps, but he actually was.

And George W. Bush and the Queen of England (and lots more people) couldn't really admit that before they assumed human form, they were actually shape-shifting lizards, but they were (well, according to British researcher David Icke

So, yeah, it's all about establishing and keeping brand loyalty.

Never admit you ever were, or used, the competition's product.

Hope this helps,|||Well, being a Jew is two different things. Being a Jew could mean you are a part of the Judaic faith and being a Jew could mean born into a Jewish family. Jesus was born into a Jewish family and follow the customs of the Jewish faith because Christianity wasn't made yet. But Jesus was the Christ making him the leader of Christianity. He believed in God because God was his father but Jesus couldn't become a Christian because that would be believing in himself to be who he says he was so technically he couldn't be a Christian because he started Christianity and the faith revolves around him, God and the Holy Spirit and he believed that but by believing that, he was a Christian because he knew it to be true. Jesus actually WAS a Christian because he believed in his own teachings and believed in God. He also knew he was the only way to Heaven because he says in John 14:6 "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one come to the Father except through me." So he knew he was the only way to get to Heaven and believed it so you can say he was a Christian.|||Because that's why TV tells them. And most Christian parents too. Mostly because most of them let their Pastors read the Bible for them and tell them what it says instead of reading it for themselves. That's rarely excusable since most English speakers can also read fairly well and obtain Bibles.

I doubt God will accept their laziness as a good excuse either.|||Yes, Jesus was a Rabbi. All of his followers were jews.

Paul, who never met Jesus, started the religion ABOUT jesus

and pretty much gave it his own ideas. He was big on recruiting non jews

to the new religion and he decided that although it was an offshoot of Judaism,

the converts did not need to be circumcised. Paul was what you might call

"a people pleaser."|||Jesus was God. Your question in general makes no sense because the word " Christian " means to be Christ like. I have never personally ever heard anyone say Jesus was a Christian. He was Christ, so what you are saying makes no sense.

Jesus was God in the flesh. Plain and simple.|||I understand and commend your point that the historical 1st century Jew %26amp; Pharisee Ribi was not Christian, which is a 2nd-4th century (post-135 CE) expression of Hellenism.

However, since the 4th century CE, all Christians and the Church have defined their makeover image as Ιησους (Ieisous) / Jesus (see www.netzarim.co.il, click on the History Museum in the navigation panel at left, then select "Ieisous Name" from the menu at top) -- which was NOT the name of the 1st century Jew %26amp; Pharisee Ribi.

Nor was the face the same (see www.netzarim.co.il, click on the History Museum in the navigation panel at left, then select "Ieisous Face" from the menu at top)!

The historical 1st century Jew %26amp; Pharisee Ribi Yehoshua was NOT the same as the Christian Jesus, and these two opposite should be meticulously differentiated at all times.

Ribi Yehoshua was not a Christian. The 4th century makeover Christian image, Jesus, was and is Christian.

To correct an error by another poster, the earliest known copies of the LXX (Septuagint) are the Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus--both 4th century C.E. AND THE SAME CODICES CONTAINING THE CHRISTIAN NT!!!

The Hebrew name יהושע (Yehoshua) is Hellenized via 2nd-4th century redactions, by the same Christian Church that produced the 4th century NT, to match the Christian NT in these same codices. The Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible acknowledges tens of thousands of these redactions in the NT. There is NO reason to doubt that the same redaction practice included the rest of the codices--namely the Septuagint.

There is no earlier extant copy of the LXX. Unlike the Hebrew or Targumim, the LXX is, essentially, a 4th century redaction-produced Christian document reworked to match their NT.

Moreover, Pharisees--which defined Ribi Yehoshua--despised and condemned Hellenism the use of Greek. I suggest those who are unaware of these historical facts read Oxford historian James Parkes and our History Museum (both cited below).|||He was jewish, not christian because his death was part of our religion. He died a jew and mary his mother was the christian.

Thomas Paine. I guess over 2.1 billion people are wrong about him and you are right. It seems there is no way u will repent throughout your life though i pray you will so live life while you can because you are in a world of eternal pain when you die.|||Ok thomas pain is a nut that belongs in a tree and all bibles have all the same scripture and it says nothing about Christ being a christian let alone anything about religon which was only mentioned once in the good book do you even know what christianity is its to be christ like walk the foot steps its a command God wants us to follow not a religion|||Jesus changed everything when He came. His disciples...oh, no, ATE corn on the

SABBATH day!!, and then there was the 'eye for an eye' and the list is just

so long. Jesus didn't practice it, He led it even from the age of 12.|||The only Christians calling Jesus a Christian have no idea what they are talking about. He did not worship himself. You are correct, Jesus was a Jew.|||.

Yes "Pretty" you are right this time. :~)

.|||The word Christian was coined by the Romans who said people that followed Christ were Christians.|||because they are fools. He was jewish, and his religion would be Jewish.|||I haven't heard anyone make the claim that Jesus was a Christian.|||As you said, Jesus and His disciples were Jews.

In Jerusalem, on the day of Pentecost, 120 JEWS were filled with the Holy Spirit like the prophets fulfilling Joel 2 and Jer. 31. All believers trace their spiritual lineage to this event and these 120 Jews...and ZERO Gentiles. The counsel in Acts 15 had ZERO Gentile leaders mentioned. The Gospels and at least half of Acts, therefore, describe a continuation of Judaism and not the beginning of a new religion....and I would challenge anyone saying it is the beginning of a new religion to explain when fulfilling Jewish scriptures and being filled with the spirit of the God of Israel has ever been the start of a new religion. The word "Christian" was invented until Acts 11.

I would challenge them to identify the event where the Jews stopped converting Gentiles to where Gentiles started converting Jews in the NT. I have yet to have a taker of the challenge.

What I have found is the church does not track Jewish history long enough to discover the event where Jews stopped believing in a God that will speak and act to a God who will only speak and act again after there is world peace and the real Messiah...not Jesus...comes. As a result, the assumption is that Jewish today continued as they were prior to the destruction of the Temple...this simply is a false assumption.

One of the shapers in Reform Judaism, Dr. Kaufman Kohler, said: ***“We consider their [the Holy scripture’s] composition, their arrangements and their entire contents as the work of men, betraying in their conceptions of the world shortcomings of their age;”***

and

***A survey commissioned that year by the Central Conference of American [Reform] Rabbis, reported that “... ninety-percent classified their faith with terms like: “Agnostic;” “Atheist;”...***

http://www.simpletoremember.com/articles…

There are no sacrifices.

There are no priests.

Judaism 101 says: ***We stopped offering sacrifices because we do not have a proper place to offer them. The Torah specifically commands us not to offer sacrifices wherever we feel like it; we are only permitted to offer sacrifices in the place that G-d has chosen for that purpose.***

The solution to this problem did not come from God or a prophet and the solution is the split from scriptural Judaism and the creation of Orthodox Judaism.

The reason Judaism 101 didn't include a scripture verse linked to sacrifices only occurring in the Temple is because there aren't any. Obviously, the scriptures recognize the sacrifices done in the desert outside the land of Israel as proper places. No where in the Jewish scripture did God appoint the Temple as the ONLY place sacrifices can be made. And Elijah did make a sacrifice on Mt. Carmel accepted by God when there was a Temple in Jerusalem.

*** Forgiveness is obtained through repentance, prayer and tzedakah (charity or other good deeds).

In Jewish practice, prayer has taken the place of sacrifices. In accordance with the words of Hosea, we render instead of bullocks the offering of our lips (Hosea 14:3)*** http://www.jewfaq.org/qorbanot.htm

If Hosea had intended to replace sacrifices with prayer,

1. He would have stopped sacrifices from being made.

2. The 1st Temple would never have been rebuil and offered sacrifices

3. The rededication of the Temple (Chanukkah) would never occurred.

So there are 900 years Jews including the prophet himself, not interpreting Hosea 14:3 this way.

So after the event: The burning of Jerusalem, the destruction of the Temple and the killing of about a million Jews, Judaism changed from scriptural Judaism to Rabbinic Judaism where:

1. God will not speak or act until the Messiah comes (not Jesus)

2. Prayer has replaced the need for sacrifices and priests

3. Passover can be celebrated as servants of Rome(Gentiles) instead of as a free people.

Scriptural Judaism did not just naturally progress into Orthodox Judaism. Orthodox or Rabbinic Judaism started as a result of Rome crushing the first Jewish rebellion where Zakkai was the change agent or first Rabbi.

To answer you question and implied question, you need to recognize that Christianity is a sect of Messianic Judaism which is a sect of Scriptural Judaism. Orthodox Judaism is the other sect from scriptural Judaism and they made radical changes from scriptural Judaism to appease Vespasian.|||Can't explain it all here it takes a study to understand, but, to address the Christianity part, No one claims Jesus to be a Christian. In Hebrew His name is Yehoshua and He is the Messiah which means anointed one, in the Greek anointed one is Christos, and as it gets into our English it comes from Yehoshua Messiah to Jesus Christ. His follower were first called Christians, in English, at Antioch. Christian means little anointed ones, his followers. Jesus came to His own and His own did not receive Him. Yes, in the flesh He was a Jew, but He did not practice Judaism. Judaism was filled with man made laws and man made tradition. He and only He ever kept the true laws of God perfectly, He also is the giver of that law and it is good. We being corrupted beings can never keep that law in order to obtain salvation, thus He came and gave His life and shed His blood upon the cross, was dead and buried. and was raised to life on the third day. It is by His sacrifice that those who would repent and believe upon His name should inherit eternal life. The law was not designed to save us, but was given to show us what sinners we are and that we are in need of a Savior, thus it was designed to bring us to Jesus Christ who not only fulfilled the law but is the end of the law for those who are in Christ Jesus. For there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. In Christ there is neither Jew nor Gentile, He came to save all those whom believe in Him, So if you hear Him calling do not harden your heart, seek Him with all that you have, repent from your sins, and believe that by the grace of God that Jesus, God of very God, shed His blood, God's blood, that your sins might be forgiven and are therefore justified in the sight of the Almighty. It is God's free gift which no amount of mans works can earn. It is by God's grace through faith we are saved and not of works lest any man should boast. This is the good news that the apostles taught and they were Jews who were set free from the bondage of sin and the yoke of Judaism.

Interestingly, the oldest known copies of the old testament are the Greek Septuagint which was translated from the Hebrew into the Greek around the third century BCE Not only was it quoted and used by the new testament people but in it the book of Joshua, Yehoshua in the Hebrew, is rendered Iesous in the Greek, which is Jesus as we know it today, to claim otherwise one is either misinformed or has not the truth.

Here is a link to an Interlinear Septuagint for proof that Iesous is used and translated to Joshua (Jesus)
